Londoners waste hours in traffic jams, while cars aggravate the environmental crisis of one of the world's largest cities. Extended roads can no longer handle the growing needs of the metropolitan area. However, electric air taxis could become an urban mobility solution.

Aviamarket, run by Viktor Martynov, plans to launch passenger services with electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL) by 2031–2032. eVTOL will deliver fast, affordable and environmental urban flights reinventing the megapolis transport. This project is not just a technology breakthrough, but a new standard of sustainable mobility.

Unlike helicopter services, eVTOL flights will be targeted to a wide audience promising speed, convenience and a minimal carbon footprint. London will be a venue for this ambitious idea that combines cutting-edge technology, sustainability and social significance.

The flights will reduce travel time, environmental pollution and noise levels. eVTOLs don't produce any carbon emissions, which is critical for London, where air quality remains a major issue. According to Transport for London, the transport sector accounts for about 25% of the city's CO2 emissions, and eVTOLs can significantly lower this indicator.

Location of the first heliports

The project provides for a network of compact heliports in key London locations: City of London, Canary Wharf, Chelsea, Paddington, as well as London City and Heathrow airports. Since vertiports will be modular, it will cut down construction costs and enhance their adaptability to the urban environment. For example, the flight from Heathrow Airport to the Chelsea area will take on average 5-7 minutes.

eVTOL flights will be affordable

It's planned to deploy the project as affordable to a wide audience. Its mission is to raise awareness about sustainable transport to further develop eVTOL sales starting with large corporations.

We don't seek operating profit from flights. Our goal is to show corporations how convenient, affordable and environmentally friendly it is, how it promotes conscious consumption. We want to create sustainable demand for the project to generate significant revenue in a 5-7 years' horizon.

Viktor used to manage helicopter sales on the international market and has all required competences to implement this project. His reputation in the aviation industry and business environment provides a solid foundation underlying this ambitious eVTOL initiative.

Key challenges: regulation, financing and public opinion

The project faces a number of challenges. First, this is regulatory barriers: eVTOL flights must be approved by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). It's necessary to develop the rules of integrating eVTOL into urban airspace ensuring safety and minimizing conflicts with traditional aviation.

The second issue is fundraising: to build heliports and purchase eVTOLs, hundreds-of-millions-of-pounds investments are needed. Investors from the UK and Switzerland are ready to allocate significant funds, while Aviamarket plans to raise additional capital from external sources ensuring strict cost control and meeting project deadlines.

The third challenge is public attitude: the British can be skeptical about the new transport mode because of safety concerns. But, to a greater extent, it's the task of the manufacturers. Transparency, publications about safety and environmental benefits, and discussions engaging users can drive success. Since the project stakes on the corporate segment, it might be not that difficult to overcome skepticism.

Vision of the future of urban mobility

The eVTOL project is not just about launching a new transport mode, but a step towards rethinking urban mobility. London can turn into the first metropolis where flights above traffic jams will become commonplace reducing the carbon footprint and making the city cleaner and more comfortable. The project success will inspire cities around the globe, from New York to Tokyo, to migrate to sustainable transport solutions. By 2031-2032, eVTOLs will become a part of the integrated transport network enhancing quality of life and opening new business opportunities.

It takes visionary and pioneering people to build a dream like this, and we believe we can make it happen. For decades flying cars have only been talked about, but now it’s very close to becoming a reality. We are actively selecting one or two trusted eVTOL manufacturers as our exclusive vendors to build the London fleet.

The company is negotiating with eVTOL manufacturers seeking to build a fleet of vehicles supplied by a single vendor to simplify operation and maintenance. According to Samuel, it's rather difficult to choose the manufacturer because of market fluctuations, certification uncertainty and operational challenges. In spite of this, Aviamarket aims to launch the 10-vehicles' pilot program in 2031-2032. Success of this initiative will lay the foundation for global transformation of urban mobility.
